HANDLING SPAM

Spams are unwanted E-mail messages which are primarily send with the commercial commodities to the recipients. Gmail has a Spam folder to handle spam messages.

Gmail transfers all spam messages into the Spam folder. Spam folder displays on the left side of the Gmail window.

If Spam Folder does not display on the left side of the Gmail window then you need to change account settings of the Gmail account. To change settings select the Setting option from the right side of the window and click on Labels tab. After this, click on show in front of Spam.

Marking an E-mail as Spam

If you receive an E-mail in your inbox which is a spam, you need to click on “Report Spam” button. After this, E-mail gets transferred into Spam folder.

Checking Spam Folder

You should check your spam folder after a certain interval of time. Whereby, we are able to identify our important E-mails which may be marked as spam by mistake. If all the E-mails of the spam folder actually a spam, you can leave them as they are automatically deleted by Gmail within 30 days. But if you want to delete them manually click on Delete forever button.

Instant Messaging and Collaboration

Instant Messaging (IM) is a type of communication services that enables you to create a kind of private chat room with another individual in order to communicate in real time over the Internet.

IM is a software utility that allows users connected to the Internet or corporated network to send text messages and files between other IM users. Using Internet connection, user can collaborate with his/her friends and business partners all over the world. Most IM programs provide these features:

• Chat Create a chat room with friends or coworkers.

• Web links Share links to your favourite websites.

• Video Send and view videos, and video chat face to face with friends.

• Image Look at an image stored on your friend’s computer.

• Sounds Play sounds for your friends.

• Files Share files by sending them directly to your friends.

• Talk Use the Internet instead of a phone to actually talk with friends.

Using Smiley

Emoticons or smileys are elements that help you to express your emotions or feelings in your E-mail and text messages during chat. They provide a direct and funny way to express yourself in addition to the words, which you generally use in your E-mail messages. The following are some commonly used smileys:

Internet Etiquettes (Netiquette)

Netiquette refers to the set of rules governing correct behaviour on the Internet in order to respect others. Netiquette covers not only rules of behaviour during discussions but also give guidelines that reflect the unique electronic nature of the medium.

Rules for Internet Etiquettes

(i) Use appropriate language

(ii) Be concise

(iii) Include a subject line

(iv) Respect Others privacy

(v) No spam (junk mail)
